Tips

  • Always negotiate the price of a cab, oregas or pulomonia first.
  • Keep cash/pesos on you at all times. Most places in Mexico don’t take plastic, many don’t take any currency but pesos.
  • Keep a picture of your doc’s on your phone you never know when you’ll need it.
  • Stay in the more tourist area’s. Especially if you are not fluent in Spanish. This will keep you safest
  • Use transportation when out at night.
  • Always negotiate prices before you buy anything most small vendors will lower them.
  • Hide at least 200 pesos somewhere on your person. Just encase.
  • Don’t wear flashy jewelry.
  • Pack light
  • Learn at least some key phrases in Spanish. Visit my Must know Spanish page for some.
  • Download the translator app on your phone. The exact Mexican Spanish may not be perfectly translated but it will definitely help.
  • Try street food vendors. The food is so much more authentic and cost is amazingly cheap.
  • Take a dose of vermox before or as soon as you arrive this will help keep any food illness at bay. It can be easily purchased at any pharmacy here.
